D-1 Marseille / Arles : The inspiration
Welcome by your driver at the airport of Marseille. Transfer to Arles. Arrive in the small city of Arles, a roman capital with its beautiful Gallo-roman relics. This is where Van Gogh would paint over 300 of his drawings and paintings. Enjoy an afternoon guided visit of all the places where the Master painter as set his easel such as the Forum, Trinquetaille bridge , the Lices garden, Van-Gogh's bridge , the arena, the Alyscamps.... Dinner at hotel and overnight in Arles.
D-2 Les Alpilles : Light and serenity
After breakfast, visit the abbaye de Montmajour, and its incredible meditation gardens which inspired Van Gogh. Discover the romane abbey, the mediaval chapel, the fortified tower and the grandiose ruines of the monastery. Lunch (included). Visit the Saint Paul de Mausole Monasty in Saint Remy de Provence. Famous for having hosted the artist, this monastery is also a true chef d'œuvre of provençal Roman architecture. On the way back to Arles, see the amazing perched village of Les Baux de Provence. Dinner on your own and overnight in Arles.
D-3 Avignon : the Works
Guided tour of the historic town centre, seat of nine Popes giving rise to a significant architectural heritage, notably the majestic Palace of the Popes. Entrance to the Palace is included, a visit to the Palace's Wine Cellar or « Bouteillerie », with wine-tasting, is optional. Lunch (included) in Avignon. Afternoon visit of Angladon Museum, featuring works from Van Gogh, Degas, Manet, Cézanne, Vuillard, Picasso, Modigliani, Foujita... Dinner on your own and overnight in Arles.
D-4 Aix en Provence
Transfer to Aix en Provence, the much loved city of Good King Rene, 15th century count of Provence, and Impressionist painter Cezanne. After lunch (included) Visit Cezanne workshop which relates the attachment of the painter to this luminous region. Visit with sampling of a calissons factory (traditional lozenge-shaped candy made of ground almonds. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Aix en Provence.
D-5 Salon of Provence
You will first go through the charming provençal village of Pelissane before visiting Salon-en-Provence, city of Nostradamus and capital of oils, soaps and coffees since the 19th century. You will be visiting a traditional Marseille soap factory. Lunch (included). Driving back through Vernègues, an old village set high up in the mountains with great views, enjoy a visit in a provençal winery including a wine tasting session. Dinner on your own and overnight in Aix en Provence.
D-6 Aix en Provence
Enjoy your last day in Aix en Provence at leisure. Stroll along the narrow street for Provencal shopping; enjoy walking streets of the Cours Mirabeau. Dinner on your own and overnight in Aix en Provence.
D-7: Flight back
Early morning transfer to Marseilles airport for your return flight.
