* France - Provence Côte d'Azur : Museum Picasso, Chagall, Renoir...
Modern art and gorgeous gardens combined on this coach tour of Provence and the Cote d'Azur, a favourite haunt of artists and the well at heel. Cezanne, Renoir, Picasso and Chagall, were drawn by the special light, not to mention the rich and famous who chose to build beautiful homes and gardens here, such as the Albertas Gardens, or the Villa Ephrussi-Rothschild in a prestigious location neighbouring the Principality of Monaco.
Dates
A mix of Italian Renaissance and classic French styles mingle in these wonderful gardens, listed as a national monument, designed to thrive despite the vagaries of the Provencal climate. Dinner and overnight in the Marseilles region.
First we visit Cezanne's birthplace and the house where he was born, the Jas de Bouffan. Then on to taste some "calissons", local sweets, in an artisanal factory. After lunch we visit Cezanne's workshop, set in a romantic garden, where he painted his famous masterpiece, the Bathers. The original furniture and objects used for his still lives are preserved. An optional extra is a visit at the Granet Museum. Dinner and overnight.
Guided tour of the countryside around Aix in search of the spots where Cezanne poised his easel to paint his last versions of his beloved mountain, the "Sainte Victoire". We continue to the Cote d'Azur for lunch and Renoir's dream garden in the village of Cagnes sur Mer, "Le Domaine des Colettes", a green haven full of centuries old olive trees and overflowing with flowers. You can visit the house, his last resting place. Dinner and overnight in the Cannes region.
On display in the Picasso Museum in Antibes are some 245 of his works of art.
