Dates
Lunch in Avignon. Guided tour of the historic town centre, seat of nine Popes giving rise to a significant architectural heritage, notably the majestic Palace of the Popes. Entrance to the Palace is included, a visit to the Palace’s Wine Cellar or « Bouteillerie », with wine-tasting, is optional. Dinner and overnight.
The sweet-toothed will delight in a visit to a chocolate maker. Wine-tasting in one of the Chateauneuf du Pape estates is followed by a traditional style lunch on site. Back to Avignon for a leisurely cruise on the Rhone for a magnificent view of the Pont d’Avignon and the Papal City. Dinner and overnight.
The Giant of Provence, Mont Ventoux, towers over the Provencal countryside. Pass by on the way to Vaison la Romaine, a stunning village with its fascinating Roman ruins on the valley floor and mediaeval “Haute-Ville” high above on a rocky spur. (Tourist Train ride with commentary – optional). Lunch.
