
* Nīmes, Roman Provence and the Cevennes Hills
Nîmes is a both a lively, modern city and a lovely Provencal town where some of the best preserved Roman ruins mingle with the more recent urban landscapes. No visit to Nimes would be complete without a trip to the nearby Pont du Gard and the lovely countryside of the Cevennes.

Lunch then guided tour of the spectacular Pont du Gard aqueduct, a masterpiece of Roman engineering built to bring water from the Uzes Springs to the city of Nimes. Dinner of the group
and overnight.
Visit the National Stud Farm in its 19th century period buildings in Uzes. Nearby is the Haribo Sweet Museum for all you ever wanted to know about French “bonbons”. Lunch then on towards Anduze. The Bamboo Garden, quite unique in Europe, is a wonderful park with over 150 types of Bamboo and many other remarkable tree species. Dinner of the group and overnight.
Guided tour of Nimes with its extensive Roman remains, in particular two of the best preserved – the spectacular Amphitheatre, and the « Maison Caree », a small remarkably preserved Roman Temple. Visit the 18th century Gardens of the Fountain, built around the Sanctuary of the Sacred Spring, with its beautiful lawns and trees and different ancient monuments. Stop of the group for some wine-tasting before lunch.
