D1 Saturday: Flower Battle in Nice (70 km)

Lunch in Nice. Enjoy the fun of the Flower Battle on the seafront “Promenade des Anglais” where all and sundry jostle to catch the blossoms thrown out from the flower-crammed floats in the procession.

D2 Sunday: Mimosa Festival in Mandelieu (50 km)

Mimosas have to be « forced » to bloom and we visit a workshop or “forcerie”, in the hills of the Tanneron region behind Cannes, where the green flowers are taken to blossom. After lunch enjoy the Mandelieu Flower Parade, whose theme this year is “Myths and Legends”. Then visit a local artisan making candles using the region’s flowers to decorate his creations. Dinner and overnight.

D3 Monday: Grasse, Perfume Capital of the Riviera (20 km)

Head for Grasse, whose climate and sunshine enabled the perfume industry to flourish, and visit the Galimard or Fragonard Perfume Factories. Optional Extra: ease into the Provencal way of life with a lesson of “petanque” in neighbouring Saint Paul de Vence accompanied by a glass of pastis. Lunch.
