D1 Guided tour ofBastia

Lunch in Bastia. Guided tour of the town, set on hills sloping steeply to the seaside, with its narrow streets and hilly alleys. Dinner and overnight.

D2 * Walking in the Castagniccia (55 km)

Days' hike with a picnic lunch in the Castagniccia region, where dense chestnut forest swathe the hills and hilltop villages each have their old stone oven and "sechoir" for drying the chestnuts, or "castagna". Visit the Orezza quarry, whose green Orezza stone was used for the Medici family tomb. Dinner and overnight.

D3 * Corte : Hike in the Tavignanu Gorges (70 km)

Guided tour of Corte and the Museum of Corsica: schiste tiled rooftops, steep and winding cobbled streets with old stone steps. Lunch then a hike in the stunning Tavignanu Gorges, following an old pastoral route, as far as the Russulinu footbridge. Dinner and overnight.

D4 St Florent (25 km)

Visit this old Genoese stronghold with its citadel and fishing port, not forgetting the stunning white sandy beaches of the region. Lunch.
