* Italy - Elba Island and Tresors
Elba, largest of the islands in the Tuscan Archipelago, is a paradise of lush green hills and dramatic coastline set in the sparkling Tyrrhenian seas, just opposite Corsica, and famed place of exile of Napoleon.
Dates
We journey via Genoa and Livorno to Piombino, on the Tuscan coast, where we arrive in the evening. One hour ferry crossing to Elba. We settle in to our accommodation in the region of Portoferraio. Dinner and overnight.
Explore the old capital of Elba, Portoferraio. Time at leisure to stroll along the old streets and perhaps to purchase some local handicraft. Fish lunch in a local restaurant. Heading to the western side of the island, we follow the coast via the Procchio Gulf, stopping at a wine cellar in Marciana to sample some of the local wines. We continue south and return through Martina di Campo. Dinner and overnight.
We head to the Campo gulf, and on to Capoliveri, stopping at the so called « Three Seas » viewpoint. We continue to Porto Azzurro, where we break for a restaurant lunch of local delicacies. Next stop is a workshop specialising in stone cutting, precious stones that is. On via Rio Nell'Erba to our final halt, Rio Marina where we stop to visit the village. Dinner and overnight.
Breakfast. Return ferry crossing from Portoferraio to Piombino.
