Arrive at the end of the day and meet with your local guide. Dinner and overnight in the Olbia region.
Discover the stunning Costa Smeralda, the Emerald Coast, and notably Porto Cervo, a favourite resort with the rich and famous. On to Palau and the boat across to Maddalena island. Lunch then a tour of Maddalena and neighbouring Caprera. A visit to the National Garibaldi Museum is optional. Return boat to Palau and on to Castelsardo. Dinner and overnight in the Castelsardo region.
Castelsardo is our first stop, where you can stroll through the winding alleys of the village, perched between sea and sky, well known for its many artisans. Free time for shopping and lunch. On to Sassari and a visit of the town centre with the main square, piazza Castello, the gothic St Nicolas Dome, and St Peter's church. Dinner and overnight in the Alghero region.
Visit the old mediaeval town of Alghero, with its Spanish bastions, the Sulis tower, Machin Square and the cathedral - home to some excellent artworks. A boat trip to Neptune's grotto is an optional extra. Lunch then on to Bosa via the corniche road. Driving through the mountains you have superb glimpses of the coast and Mediterranean Sea. Time to tour Bosa, situated on the banks of Sardinia's only navigable river, the "Temo". Dinner and overnight in the region of Oristano.
Drive to Tharros, an old town built by the Phoenician's, where even today traces of Roman and Punic occupation are still visible. Lunch then continue to Barumini. Here you can see the Su Naxi "Nuraghi", dry stone towers peculiar to Sardinia, topped with a flat-topped cone shaped roof, and inside corbel vaulted rooms. Dinner and overnight in the Cagliari region.
Guided tour of Cagliari with its mediaeval centre and Roman/Pisan cathedral of Santa Maria. Our route continues via Poette, an absolutely stunning white sand beach, and the Molentagius lagoon- a wildlife reserve where pink flamingos come to nest. After lunch free time, or alternatively an excursion to the town of Nora, a Phoenician settlement dating from the 9th century B.C., where you can visit the archaeological digs revealing the amphitheatre and some mosaics. Dinner, or the option to enjoy an evening of Sardinian Folklore with dancers and musicians, with dinner included. Overnight.
Direction Arbatax taking the coast road via Muravera, through a red rocky pass. Visit the little port from where Sardinian wood and cork are exported. Lunch in Tortoli then continue to Dorgali, stopping en route at Cala Gonone where the cliffs tower over this little fishing port, now a lively seaside resort. Dinner and overnight in the Dorgali region.
Our nest destination is Nuoro, on the Mont Ortobene plateau. After visiting the town stop at the Museum of Sardinian Folklore Museum, where a variety of items such as costumes, jewellery and local craft are on display. Continue to Orgosolo, famous for its wall paintings. Enjoy a typical Sardinian lunch with some local shepherds. On then to Olbia following the eastern coast. Say farewell to your guide. Dinner and overnight in the Olbia region.
