D1 London

Arrive in London early in the afternoon. Guided sightseeing tour of London and her most famous landmarks : the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and Tower Bridge. Dinner and overnight in the Greater London area.

D2 Oxford / Stratford Upon Avon / Coventry (230 km)

Leave for Oxford. Guided tour of this University town and the numerous colleges including Christchurch which occupies a special place in the city as both University and Cathedral. Lunch then on to Stratford Upon Avon, Shakespeare's home. Stroll around and admire the half-timbered houses and flower-filled gardens. Follow in the footsteps of the Bard : his house of birth, New Place, Hall's Croft, and the theatre. Dinner and overnight in the region of Coventry.

D3 York / Newcastle Upon Tyne (365 km)

We head for the historic city of York, well known for its mediaeval city walls. Lunch then a guided tour of the city, the ramparts in particular are some of Europe's best preserved, the Minster, England's grandest abbey and the Shambles district with its narrow winding alleys and half-timbered houses. Continue to Newcastle Upon Tyne for dinner and overnight in the region.

D4 Edinburgh (225 km)

Leave for Edinburgh where we arrive in time for lunch. Sightseeing tour of this fascinating city : the Royal Mile, Holyrood House, the Queen's official residence, and then a visit to Edinburgh Castle, symbol of Scottish history towering above the town. Dinner and overnight in the Edinburgh region.

D5 Perth / Pitlochry / Aviemore (210 km)

Direction Perth and a visit to Scone Place, historic home of the counts of Mansfield. Lunch then on to Pitlochry where we visit a whisky distillery and do some tasting. On to Aviemore for dinner and overnight in the region.

D6 The Highlands and Loch Ness (245 km)

Journey on to Inverness, capital of the Highlands, and a chance to visit the Culloden battlefields. On then to Loch Ness for a cruise on the lake in search of Nessie, the infamous monster. Stop at the ruins of Urquhart Castle. Dinner and overnight.

D7 Glencoe Visitor Centre / Loch Lomond / Glasgow (210 km)

Our route continues via Loch Laggan, Spear and Fort William. Discover the grandiose valley of Glencoe and after lunch visit the Glencoe Visitor Centre. Driving through the highlands we make for Loch Lomond, Great Britain's largest lake, before going on to Glasgow for a sightseeing tour. Dinner and overnight in the Glasgow region.

D8 Gretna Green / Chester (390 km)

Today we cross the "Border Region", crossing into England at the famous Gretna Green then travelling down through the beautiful Lake District. Lunch then on Chester. Guided tour of this mediaeval city famous for its walls, the Cathedral and the "rows", or shopping arcades housed in tall half-timbered houses. Dinner and overnight in the Chester region.

D9 Wales and Cardiff (245 km)

Set off for Cardiff, Wales' capital, arriving in time for lunch. Guided tour of the town with its contrasting architecture, the historic castle sitting amidst innovative newer buildings : the National Museum and the Millennium Stadium as well as the recently transformed Cardiff Bay docks area. Dinner and overnight.

D10 Stonehenge / Petworth House / Brighton (325 km)

Stop at Stonehenge to take in the 4000 year old prehistoric stone circles, one of the most famous sites in Europe. Lunch en route then a visit to Petworth House, one of England's most imposing 17th century mansions, set in magnificent parkland. Dinner and overnight in the Brighton region.

D11 Brighton / London (125 km)

No visit to Brighton would be complete without a visit to the Royal Pavilion with its Indian style domes and towers, and Chinese style interiors. Lunch, then we make for London. Free afternoon with time to explore at leisure or do some shopping. Dinner and overnight in the Greater London region.
