During this coach tour, Discover some of the highlights of Greece, a country steeped in ancient history and mythology. Diverse landscapes range from craggy mountains and olive-swathed hills to beautiful unspoilt coastline lapped by translucent blue waters. Arrive at Athens airport where you will be welcomed by your English-speaking Tour Guide and transfer to your hotel. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight in the Athens region.
Leave for the Corinth Canal along the Saronic Gulf coast road. Continue to the ancient fortress of Mycenae with its gigantic stone walls, sophisticated tombs and the famous Lion Gate leading into the citadel. Continue across the Argolis Plain to Nafplion, a lovely coastal town at the foot of the historic Palamidi fortress. Free time for lunch then on to Epidaurus. The vast and well preserved amphitheatre here is famous for its amazing acoustics and symmetrical beauty. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight in a Hotel type Neda of similar in Olympia.
Leave for Olympia via Tripolis and Lagadia. Free time for lunch then visit the ancient archaeological complex and Museum, including the temple of Zeus. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight in Delphi.
Direction Delphi via the Rion-Antirion Bridge spanning the Corinth Strait, linking the Peloponnese with the mainland. Free time for lunch then on to Delphi, legendary site of the Sacred Precinct, and the Oracle, on a mountain terrace encircled by the rugged Parnassus Mountains. Visit Apollo’s Temple and Museum before making for Kalambaka. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight in Kalambaka.
The mountain pillars of Meteora are extraordinary by themselves, huge chunks of rock hundreds of metres tall, but what makes them all the more remarkable are the exquisite monasteries built on top, as if suspended in mid-air. Visit the monasteries before free time for lunch, then leave for the Thermopylae Pass, with a halt at the Leonidas monument. Continue to Athens. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight in a Hotel.
All aboard for a cruise in the Saronic Gulf. The volcanic isle of Aegina, dominated by Mount Zeus (532m) is well known for its local specialities: pottery, pistachios and marzipan, as well as its traditional fishing boats, caïques, selling their catch, and fruit and vegetables too. Free time for lunch. On to Poros where you will be charmed by the cube shaped brilliant white houses, and finally picturesque Hydra, where you might bump into a donkey or mule as you wander in the steep, narrow streets : Hydra is a car free zone. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight.
Visit the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece’s biggest Museum but also one of the world’s major collections of Greek and Roman Art. Free time for lunch then in the afternoon visit Cape Sounion, where the impressive cliff top ruins of Poseidon’s Temple stand, commanding breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and the Cyclades islands. Stop at a local wine cellar to taste some local wines then return to the hotel. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at the hotel.
Breakfast then free time in Athens before transfer to the airport. End of Tour Guide services.
