Lunch in Amsterdam. Guided Tour of the capital's old town centre criss-crossed by canals, lined with elegant 17th century gabled town houses. Visit the Gewoonboot : a truly ecological floating house that uses renewable energy sources to provide its own power, and whose prototype is moored at NDSM quay to the north of Amsterdam. Dinner and overnight in the region of Amsterdam.

A day excursion in the company of an expert ecological consultant. Direction Culembourg, a town that's entirely "environmentally friendly", with solar powering, and management of the water table topping the agenda. Continue to Amersfoort to explore the Nieuwland district and its solar power station comprising solar panels and captors, with an explanation of 5 different ways of managing the solar energy: schools, private housing, government housing, and two other unique buildings. Lunch then on to Flevoland, a wooded region with huge polders. At Lelystad visit the Polder Museum with its permanent exhibition on the Zuiderzee dam projects. Continue to Zeewolde, lying some 14 metres beneath sea level! Visit a wind farm. Dinner and overnight.

Head for the Delta region, to the south, where a string of isles and estuaries border the North Sea. Visit the Delta Expo which gives a general view of the importance of the Delta works and of the Escaut Oriental dam, a hydraulic barrage unique in the world. Lunch in Middelburg.
