Lunch in Vaison la Romaine. Guided tour of the town, its gallo-romain ruins and mediaeval buildings. On towards the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain ridge and a visit to a confectioner's workshop specializing in the famous hard-boiled sweets, or "berlingots" from Carpentras. Dinner and overnight in the region of Orange.
An introduction to Provencal cuisine, on a local farm, starting with a tour of the kitchen garden to pick your ingredients according to the season: olives, lavender, other herbs and little known vegetables. Enjoy your creations at lunchtime before heading to Sault opposite Mont Ventoux where a visit to the Lavender Farm and nursery reveals the numerous virtues of this humble plant. Dinner and overnight.
Our route takes us through Beaumes de Venise, Vacqueyras, Gigondas, some of the best known names of the Cotes du Rhone wine growing area. Visit an estate and a chance to sample some of the different vintages. Lunch.
