DMC Group trip: Bordeaux and Great Wines of the Medoc.

A unique opportunity to discover the natural landscapes of the Aquitaine: the dune of Pilat, the highest sand dune of Europe and the Arcachon Bay. Taste the traditional delicacies of the region and its Great Wines on the Route du Médoc.


D1 Bordeaux

Group arrival at Bordeaux Merignac airport (flight under your own responsibility) where you will be welcomed by your driver. Leave for Bordeaux, the world’s wine capital, and a guided tour to admire its splendid architecture and monuments such as the Grand Theatre, Quinconces Square, and the Tourny Avenues. Check in to your 4 star hotel in the region. Dinner and overnight.



D2 Vintage Wines of the Médoc (150 km)

A tour of the some of the most prestigious vineyards of the Medoc region in the company of your wine expert, and a chance to discover the secrets of the wine-making process through the different stages, and the gustatory characteristics of a “Grand Cru Classe” vintage. Free time for lunch during the day. Dinner and overnight.

D3 Arcachon Basin Cruise (140 km)

Leave for Arcachon and a cruise taking in Bird Island, and its unique style fishing huts, raised high on stilts (oyster tasting is an optional extra). Free time for lunch. The seaside resort enjoyed its heyday in the 19th century and you can enjoy a guided tour by tourist train. On to the Dune de Pilat, Europe’s highest sand dune. Free time. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

D4 Vegetables of Yesteryear and Sweet Sauternes Wines (80 km)

Direction Sadirac for a guided tour of a totally unique organic garden entirely devoted to old varieties of fruit and vegetables: nettles, dandelions, Jerusalem artichokes, physalis and suchlike.  An introduction to the smells and tastes of long ago to surprise all cookery enthusiasts! Free time for lunch.  On then to the renowned Sauternes vineyards. Visit to Cazeneuve Castle with its Royal apartments and mediaeval cellars, expansive tree filled grounds and finally a sampling of some sweet white Sauternes wines. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

D5 Blaye Citadel and Royan’s Beaches (250 km)

Leave for Royan stopping first at Blaye, onetime strategic defence outpost for Bordeaux. Guided tour of Vauban’s citadel, a masterpiece of military construction dating from the 17th century. On to Royan, free time for lunch, and to stroll along the seashore with its vast sandy beach. Ferry crossing to the Pointe de Grave and time to indulge your sweet tooth with some local confectionery, the “Noisettines du Medoc” pralines, served to you by staff in period costumes. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 Mediaeval Garden at Gradignan and the Entre-deux-Mers Wine Region (85 km)

In Gradignan visit the Mediaeval Garden of Pierral, with its herb and aromatic plant collection. Learn about their beneficial properties and test your olfactory senses in a workshop full of subtly perfumed essential oils. Free time for lunch. Guided visit of the Cadillac Chateau whose enormous fireplaces and painted ceilings bear witness to long gone 17th century splendours, not forgetting the castle’s other past life as a prison! Stop at the Closiere domain, one time monastery, for a tasting session of AOC (Appellation d’Origine Controlee) Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux wines and Cadillac sweet white wines. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.



D7 St Emilion Wine Area (80 km) / Paris

Leave for St Emilion. Guided tour of the mediaeval village with its underground monuments hewn out of the rock. Visit a wine cellar for some tasting. Free time for lunch.  Transfer to Bordeaux Merignac Airport for the flight to Paris (flight your own responsibility). Arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. Coach transfer to your 4 star hotel in the Paris region. Check-in. Dinner and overnight.

D8 Classic Paris (30 km)

Sightseeing tour of Paris taking in the her best known landmarks including the Champs Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, the main avenues and the Invalides. Ride up to the 56th floor of the Montparnasse Tower for a fantastic panoramic view over the city and her main sights (an aperitif can be arranged here, for a small supplement). Free time for lunch. Then take a “bateau-mouche” boat trip on the Seine to enjoy Paris from the river. Free time for shopping on the Champs Elysées. Return to the Hotel. Dinner and overnight.

D9 Château de Versailles and Montmartre (80 km)

Head for Versailles and a guided tour of the Château with its famous Hall of Mirrors, and the opulent Louis XIV period Royal Apartments.  Back to Paris and free time for lunch. Tourist train ride up Montmartre and the Place du Tertre.  Guided tour of Montmartre with its narrow streets full of painters, and bustling village atmosphere, not forgetting the Basilica of the Sacré Coeur. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
