French incoming travel for group on the Champagne Trail and Burgundy Fine Wines. This incoming travel will make you discover the Champagne traditions, and the Burgundy, its wine and heritage,  to finish with a cruise on the Saône river.


D1 Classic Paris

Group arrival in Paris (flight arrangements at your discretion). Airport welcome by your driver then transfer to Paris. Sightseeing tour of Paris taking in her most famous landmarks: the Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, her grand avenues, the Invalides.  Ride up to the 56th floor of the Montparnasse Tower for a fantastic panoramic view over the city and her main sights (an aperitif can be arranged here, for a small supplement). Check in to your hotel in Paris. Dinner and overnight.

D2 Champagne Country

Leave for the Champagne region. Visit a biscuit factory in Reims (weekdays), specialising in macaroons, and rose-coloured biscuits traditionally served with champagne – a recipe dating back to the 17th century. Time for tasting too. Free time for lunch. Afterwards, visit the Snail Museum and learn all about the region’s snails, their breeding, and then a chance to sample this local delicacy with a glass of champagne. Check in to your hotel in the region. Dinner and overnight.

D3 Reims and the Champagne Route

Guided tour of Reims, famous for its Cathedral where 25 Kings of France have been crowned over the centuries, but also St Remy’s Basilica, the Royal Square, and the March Gate. Free time for lunch. Continue on the Champagne Route via Hautvilliers, and the Abbey where Dom Perignon first created champagne, to Epernay and its prestigious Champagne Avenue where all the big names of Champagne have a boutique.  Visit a champagne cellar for tasting. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

D4 Condé en Brie Château, and cruise on the Marne

Visit to Conde en Brie and its château. Onetime home to the Princes of Conde and Savoy, you can admire the sumptuous decor of the 18th century apartments. Free time for lunch, then take to the Marne and let the river be your guide as you cruise amidst the vines and flower-filled villages of the Champagne countryside. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

D5 Troyes and its Crystal Works, and Dijon

Leave for Troyes. Guided tour of the old town centre taking in the St Madeleine Church, the old St Jean quarter with its half-timbered 16th century houses, the Renaissance townhouses, and narrow alleys and inner courtyards dating back to the Middle Ages. Free time for lunch then on to Dijon, stopping at Bayel for a commentated visit of the Royal Champagne Crystal Works (weekdays), founded in 1666. Check in to your hotel in Burgundy. Dinner and overnight.

D6 Dijon, home of the humble blackcurrant

Guided tour of Dijon, onetime capital of the Dukes of Burgundy, with its numerous churches and townhouses. Free time for lunch. On to Nuits St Georges along the Wine Route. Visit to the Cassissium dedicated to the history of cassis, or blackcurrant, liqueur and time for a tasting session. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

D7 Wine Growers’ Secrets

Learn all about Burgundy’s finest wines as you tour the vineyards in the company of an expert wine guide: names, classification, soil types, and bio-dynamic trends. Tastings sessions will give you the opportunity to learn the art of wine tasting and to “tenir en bouche” to best savour the hidden flavours of these sumptuous wines. Free time for lunch during the day. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

D8 Beaune and the Macon region

Set off for Beaune, Burgundy’s wine capital. Guided tour of the town and the stupendous “Hospices” (former hospital complex), a work of art blending Flemish and Burgundy styles, with the famous brightly coloured tiled roof of the Hotel Dieu. Free time for lunch. Continue on to Macon and check in to your hotel. Dinner and overnight.   

D9 Beaujolais Grands Crus

Discover the Beaujolais region’s countryside and vineyards along the “Route des Crus”, or “”Great Wine Vintages Road” from Mount Brouilly to Morgon, stopping at the top of Mount Brouilly, for a local style mid-morning snack or “mâchon beaujolais”, and a guided tasting of the different  “appellations” or classifications. Free time for lunch. On to Romanèche Thorins and a guided visit of the fascinating Wine Museum which brings to life everything to do with wine and the regions’ wine growing history. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

D10 Lyon and a cruise on the Saone

Guided tour of Lyon, onetime capital of ancient France, or “Gaul”, nowadays an industrial and business centre which has nonetheless retained its past charms. Visit the Fourviere Hill with its Basilica, the peninsular between the Rhone and Saone  rivers, and Old Lyon with its inner courtyards,  shopping arcades and narrow alleyways. Free time for lunch. Cruise along the Saone River, from Lyon’s quayside to the banks of the Barbe Island. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

D11 Return Journey

Transfer to Lyon St Exupéry Airport for your return flight (flight arrangements at your discretion). End of our services.
