Coach Tour with DMC to discover the beautiful cities of Provence: Marseilles, Cassis, Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Arles and the Camargue
D1 Paris Landmarks and the Seine (15 km)
Arrival in Paris and Transfer to the city centre. Then a guided sightseeing tour taking in some of the city’s best known and loved monuments including the Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Eiffel Tower. Take to the river to admire the graceful architecture of her bridges and riverside mansions. Check-in to your hotel in Paris. Dinner and overnight.
D2 Louvres (closed on Tuesday) and Montmartre
This morning, you will visit The Louvre Museum, housing some of the greatest works of arts as the famous Mona Lisa for example. Free time for lunch and then tourist train ride up to Montmartre, home to the imposing Sacre Coeur Basilica. A favourite haunt with artists since the 19th century, Bohemian Montmartre still retains a village feel. Wander at leisure and soak up the atmosphere. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
D3 Orsay Museum and Shopping
You will start the day with a visit of the Museum of Orsay, which house a collection of impressionist work and present an exceptional panorama of the creation during the second half of the 19th century. After free time for shopping in the Champs Elisees. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
D4 Aix-en-Provence: Cezanne Country
Departure from Paris to Aix-en-Provence by Train TGV. 900 kms separate both cities and it will take you only 3hrs to reach Aix, we will be on board of a train running 300kms/h. Arrival to Aix TGV station. Coach transfer to the city and free time for lunch. Then visit Aix-en-Provence, city of a thousand fountains, and hometown of Cezanne. Admire the Renaissance buildings of this lovely Provencal town and visit the studio where the artist worked. Then taste some of the town’s speciality sweets, called calissons Check-in to your hotel in the region of Marseille. Dinner and overnight.
D5 Marseilles and Calanques de Cassis
Start the day with a sightseeing tour (by coach) taking in the harbour, Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica dominating the city and the ancient Abbey of Saint Victor built on the tomb of a Christian martyr. Pure and natural savon de Marseille soap is made according to traditional methods which you can witness first-hand at a soap manufacturer. Free time for lunch then excursion to Cassis, a little fishing village snugs at the foot of dramatic cliffs, and in a beautiful bay. Enjoy a boat trip to the Calanques, whose brilliant white mini-fjords slice into the limpid blue waters. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
D6 Gordes. Roussillon and Silvacane Abbey
Set off though Gordes, village in the top of a rocky hill with houses surrounding the massif castle. Guided visit to the Silvacane Abby, one of the remains of Cistercian architecture in Provence. Free time for lunch and then visit to Roussillon, classified among the most beautiful towns in France. Visit the Ochre Path or Sentier des Ocres. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
D7 Baux de Provence and Arles
Set off through Baux en Provence, small Provencal village with a unique charm free time for visiting the village. As option, visit to the Baux en Porvence Castle. Free time for lunch and then visit to Arles, former Roman metropolis boasting 2000 years of history, Arles lies at the mouth of the wild and untamed Camargue delta, land of white horses, flamingos and bull farms. Sample some of the traditionally made bull sausage or saucisson. Check-in to your hotel in the region of Arles. Dinner and overnight.
D8 In the heart of the Camargue : Bull Ranch and the Little Rhone River
Deep in Camargue country is the little town of Saintes Maries de la Mer, an important place of gypsy pilgrimage where the Rhone flows out to meet the Mediterranean Sea. Take a boat trip on the Little Rhone river then free time for lunch (local style lunch is an optional extra). In this land full of tradition, stop at a Bull Ranch where the herdsmen will share their customs and traditions with you. Our last stop is Aigues Mortes, one of France’s major sea salt producers. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
D9 Avignon Nimes
Explore the historic town of Avignon, seat of nine Popes, with its remarkable architectural heritage notably the majestic Palace of the Popes. Entrance to the Palace is included, wine-tasting in the Palace Wine Cellar or Bouteillerie, is extra. Free time for lunch. Guided tour of Nimes with its extensive Roman remains, in particular two of the best preserved – the spectacular Amphitheatre, and the Maison Caree, a small remarkably preserved Roman Temple. Visit the 18th century Gardens of the Fountain, built around the Sanctuary of the Sacred Spring, with its beautiful lawns and trees and different ancient monuments. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
