D1 Romania

The turnkey trip begin in Bucharest where you will be welcome by a guide-escort.

D2 Transylvania to Brasov (210 km)

Set off for Bran. Lunch then a visit to Bran castle, a former Hapsburg possession linked to the Dracula legend, and a formidable mediaeval fortress drawing you back into Romania’s past. Dinner and overnight in the Brasov region.

D3 Brasov / Bucharest (170 km)

Visit Brasov, Tampa hill and the enormous Black Church. Continue to Bucharest for lunch. Visit the Romanian capital, nicknamed ‘little Paris’ or ‘Paris of the Balkans’ by virtue of its numerous cultural attractions. Admire the old Princely Court or Curtea Domneasca, the Palace ruins, the Old Court Church, the Triumphal Arch and the Cotroceni Palace. Dinner in a traditional restaurant. Overnight in Bucharest.

D3 Brasov / Bucharest (170 km)

Leave for Bulgaria, stopping at the imposing Tombul Djamia de Choumen Mosque. Pass by the Madara Rider, a unique rock relief carved 23m up in a sheer cliff face. Arrive in Varna, on the shores of the Black Sea, for lunch. Tour taking in the striking cathedral, the Opera House, Sea Garden public park, Roman Baths, Archaeological Museum and the necropolis. Dinner including local wine tasting. Overnight on the waterfront in the Varna region.

D5 Bulgarian Treats and Romance of the Danube (320 km)

Depart for Silistra and stop by Alfatar Museum, with a traditional greeting in the form of the ritual pancake accompanied by apricot eau-de-vie. Visit the Church of the Holy Trinity with its famous icons. Lunch alongside the Danube followed by a boat cruise. Return via Dobrich, famous for its crafts shops. Dinner and overnight.

D6 Arbanassi and Veliko Tarnovo (225 km)

Journey to Arbanassi and visit the town centre taking in the Church of the Nativity and Constantsaliev House. Lunch then on to Veliko Tarnovo. Visit the Tsarevets fortress, pride of the Second Bulgarian Empire. Dinner and overnight in the region of Veliko Tarnovo.

D7 Sofia (225 km)

Head for Sofia. Lunch then a guided tour of the Bulgarian capital taking in the domed basilica of Hagia Sofia, the Church of Saint George, the Bania Bachi Ottoman mosque, the stunning Alexander-Nevski Cathedral and the National Art Gallery.  Visit the Boyana National History Museum. Dinner, of if you prefer, a traditional folklore evening and dinner (optional extra). Overnight.

D8 Rila Monastery / Thessalonica (380 km)

Destination Rila, and visit the largest Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, founded in the 10th century by Saint Ivan de Rila, a hermit canonised by the Orthodox Church. Lunch then journey on into Greece. Check-in to 4* hotel in Thessalonica. Dinner and overnight.

D9 GREECE: Metéora Monasteries / Kalambaka (250 km)

Set off for Kalambaka. Lunch then discover the Metéora, astonishing natural rock pinnacles crowned by monasteries that seem suspended in the air. Visit two of the monasteries. Dinner and overnight in the Kalambaka region.

Direction Delphi. Lunch then visit the Archaeological Museum at the foot of the Delphi complex. In ancient times Delphi, in a spectacular setting on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, was perhaps best known for the Oracle and the Temple of Apollo which drew huge numbers of pilgrims. Dinner and overnight in the region of Delphi.

D11 Delphi / Athens (190 km)

Leave for Athens. Lunch then guided tour of the Greek capital taking in the Acropolis and its temples, the old town and the Plaka neighbourhood, the Parliament and the changing of the guard at the Palace, and the port of Piraeus. Dinner and overnight in the Athens region.

d12 Athens

Transfer to the airport. Return journey.
