D1 Pontarlier and Joux Castle (10 km)

Arrive at Pontarlier. Lunch followed by a visit with the group to a local distillery making aniseed flavoured alcoholic beverages. Then on to the castle at Joux with its five tiers of walls. Dinner and overnight.

D2 Lakes and vineyards (190 km)

Direction Champagnole and the Baume Cirque, stopping at Baumes les Messieurs  with the group to enjoy a son and lumiere show in the underground caves with their series of lakes and rivers. After lunch we continue along the Jura Wine Route, stopping to visit a wine cellar producing the region’s renowned “vin jaune”, literally, yellow wine due to its colour. It has a very particular flavour, often present in the local delicacies of the region.  On then to Salins les Bains and a visit to the impressive underground tunnels of the salt marshes, which date back to mediaeval times. Dinner and overnight.

D3 Morteau and a cruise on the Saut du Doubs (90 km)

We head for Morteau and visit with the group the Clock Museum. We carry on to Villers-le-lac and stop for lunch. A guided cruise to admire the “Saut des Doubs” follows, a spectacular waterfall 27 metres high.  On to Gilley and a visit to the region’s biggest “tuyé”, or pyramid shaped chimney, used for smoking and drying the famous Morteau pork sausages, followed by a tasting session.  Dinner and overnight.

D4 Cheese Dairy Cellars and St Claude pipes (90 km)

Driving via the St Point lake and the ski resort of Métabief-Mont d’Or we head for Saint Claude, stopping en route to visit with the group  a traditional cheese dairy, the caves where the cheese matures, and to taste the goods.
