The light and landscapes of Provence seduced some of the greatest artists :Picasso, Cézanne, Matisse and Rodin. Discover with this group travel the source of their inspiration and some of their finest works on this short break to the sunny south of France by DMC!
D1 Cézanne and the Mont Sainte Victoire (50 km)
Arrive of the group in Aix en Provence in time for lunch. Visit the Bibemus Quarry, and the hut where Cezanne painted more than twenty of his works. Then roam the paths at the base of the Mont Saint-Victoire, his favourite subject, in search of the spots where he posed his easel. Dinner of the group. Overnight in Marseilles/region.
D2 Aix and Cézanne (70 km)
Learn the secrets of the tools of the trade at a paint manufacturer’s. Then continue to Aix en Provence, city of a thousand fountains and hometown of Cézanne, and visit the studio where he worked. Then taste some of the town’s speciality sweets, the delicious “calissons”. Lunch of the group then on to Cézanne’s family home, the Jas de Bouffan. Dinner of the group and overnight.
D3 Picasso in Vallauris and Fernand Léger in Biot (180 km)
Set off for the Côte d’Azur and the village of Vallauris, famous for its potteries. Home to Picasso for some ten years, you can see his famous « War and Peace » artwork in the Picasso Museum. Lunch of the group then continue to Biot. The Fernand Leger Museum here is entirely devoted to the artist’s works with a collection of paintings, drawings, ceramics, tapestries and sculptures. Guided tour of a glassworks to end your afternoon. Dinner of the group and overnight in Cannes or region.
D4 Nice, Chagall and Matisse (80 km)
The Matisse Museum traces the various stages in the artist’s career, from his more traditional early days to his distinctive use of form and vivid colours. After lunch of the group, discover the works on a biblical theme by Marc Chagall, at the Museum dedicated to his Bible series. Dinner of the group and overnight.
D5 Picasso Museum in Antibes (20 km)
The recently renovated Picasso Museum in Antibes, located in the Grimaldi Castle, boasts a fabulous collection of some 245 works by the artist. Lunch of the group.
